<p><strong>WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?</strong></p>
<p>Anyone looking to begin or continue working in the offshore renewable energy industry. Everyone is expected to hold a valid, in date GWO fire awareness certificate which must be refreshed every 2 years by sitting the GWO Fire awareness refresher course.</p>

<p><strong>LEARNING OUTCOMES</strong><br />
The aim of this BST (R) Fire awareness module is to give basic knowledge and skills to prevent fires and conduct initial and appropriate judgement when evaluating a fire to review and build on previously gained knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical training so that delegates can prevent fires, make initial and appropriate judgement when evaluating fire, and, if it is judged to be safe, to efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic hand-held firefighting equipment in accordance with the GWO Refresher Training.</p>
<p>At the end of this course you will be able to:</p>
<ul>
<li>demonstrate knowledge of the development and spread of fire</li>
<li> demonstrate knowledge of the development and spread of fire</li>
<li> identify any sign of a fire in a wind turbine environment</li>
<li> demonstrate knowledge of the contingency plans in a wind turbine environment including smoke detection and emergency escape procedures.</li>
<li>demonstrate correct actions on discovering a fire including correct operation and fire extinguishing by means of the firefighting equipment in a WTG.</li>

<p><strong>AIM OF THIS COURSE</strong><br />
Anyone looking to begin or continue working in the offshore renewable energy industry. Everyone is expected to hold a valid, in date GWO Manual Handling certificate which must be refreshed every 2 years by completing a GWO Manual Handling Refresher Course.  The aim of this module shall improve and refresh delegates’ awareness through theoretical and practical training to encourage positive Manual Handling behaviour and perform Manual Handling tasks in a safe manner in the wind turbine industry/environment, in accordance with GWO BST/BSTR Manual Handling.</p>

<p><strong>AT THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO</strong></p>
<p>Understand the importance of carrying out Manual Handling work duties in a safe and sound manner in accordance to with legislative requirements of your work location<br />
Demonstrate understanding of safe practices of manual handling this includes the correct handling of equipment<br />
Identify signs and symptoms of injuries related to poor manual handling and able to report it correctly.<br />
Demonstrate a problem-solving approach to Manual Handling in wind turbine environment<br />
Demonstrate Manual Handling risk reduction techniques</p>

<p>The  GWO Basic Safety Training Refresher (BSTR) provides Delegates with, reviews and builds on a range of important skills and tools obtained during the GWO basic safety training courses, which include Fire Awareness, First Aid, Working at Heights and Manual Handling and  GWO Sea Survival training.</p>

<li>Have achieved skills and basic knowledge in understanding the importance of carrying out first aid</li>

<li>Provide knowledge of safety awareness in an emergency</li>
<li>Correctly use an automatic external defibrillator as well as the correct use of first aid equipment.</li>

<p><strong>COURSE OVERVIEW</strong><br />
You will learn survival techniques and methods of safe transfer between vessels and installations.  Theoretical and practical training will give the basic knowledge and skills to act safely and take correct preventative actions in all aspects of offshore operations both during normal operation and in an emergency in an offshore wind energy environment.</p>
<p><strong>AT THE END OF THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO</strong><br />
•    Demonstrate knowledge of dangers and symptoms related to hypothermia and drowning<br />
•    Understand the limitations of different life-saving appliances (LSA), personal protective equipment (PPE) and personal fall protection Equipment (PFPE) used in the offshore wind industry<br />
•    Demonstrate knowledge of risks related to transfers<br />
•    Demonstrate safe transfer and evacuation of a WTG<br />
•    Have knowledge of search and rescue (SAR) and global maritime distress and safety systems (GMDSS)<br />
•    Give first aid treatment to a “man overboard”<br />
•    Demonstrate individual and group survival techniques at sea</p>
